A talk on Innovation and Technology: Does design function only as a sunrise or is it can it also lead to sunsets.

Jerusalem Design Week will be launched in a festive opening event at Hansen House, during which the public is welcome to wander through various exhibitions, meet the designers, and enjoy live music, a surprise concert, and a variety of unique performances designed for the opening night, including: Dance performances by Shira Evyatar and Evyatar Said, DJ Ramsy and East Jerusalem rappers in the pavilion, a live DJ set in the Chinese club, a drawing drone, and more.

Every 30 minutes Galit Gaon will host creators and curators for talk about far and close east, local identity and contemporary design.

The workshop will expose the Israeli designer to the fonts in the Arab world, the substantive differences between them, and the geographical and political reference in each font, as well as a brief explanation of Arabic calligraphy.

In recent years, an art and design scene has been growing in both Haifa and Ramallah. Designer Hamody Gannam will present a broad overview of the flourishing scene in Haifa and provide prominent examples from the simultaneously developing scene in Ramallah.

In his talk Oded Ben Yehuda will share with the audience the design study he conducted in which he tried to break down and resolve the term “Middle East.”

The talk will center round the concept of “language” and will examine it by means of a wide overview spread of regarding the presence of Arabic, Hebrew and English in the public sphere.
